Description
The Overture “Silence Impressions” Op.5 was composed in 1988 and was awarded with the 1988 CREA National Composition Prize in Mexico. The Overture was also awarded the 2nd prize at the 1990 Felipe Villanueva National Composition Competition, which led to its premiere in 1991 by Enrique Bátiz and the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra, one of the leading orchestras in Mexico. It was premiered in Australia in 2014 by the Fremantle Symphony Orchestra led by David Pye.
The overture is written for a traditional romantic orchestration, and the work was named after the impressions drawn from the silence in the music of composers such as Beethoven, Brahms and Mendelssohn.
