Description
The hidden harmony has a three-part structure:
- going out
- falling in
- melting...
The idea of complementarity of opposing pairs is the central theme of the piece. In order to delimit the polarities, one can try an analogy with the field of psychology: first part - the extrovert, second part - the introvert, final part - the union of opposites.
The orchestration plays an important role in emphasizing the character of each part: first part: diversity – woodwinds and strings, second part: depth - brass and strings, final part: celebration – woodwinds, brass and strings. If the first part represents a discovery of the external world, reflected in the orchestral lushness, the second part represents a moment of interiority, in which the principle of simplicity has an ordering role.
The last part of the piece seeks to melt the contrasts of the first two parts by incorporating them. The final part would represent the moment of harmony, this term being understood in the sense given by the ancient Greeks, harmos designating the process of gathering together. Characteristics encountered in the first two parts are found in the final part, whether we think about the sound systems used, the metrics, the timbre plan or the temporal processes.
The hidden harmony was dedicated to Remus Georgescu.
