Description
This septet was written in 1968 for students at Rock Valley College, in Rockford Il.,
where the composer taught for two years. The present version was revised in 2018.
The opening fantasia explores the possibilities of the opening descending motive,
A – G – Bb, played by the violin at the beginning. This movement leads directly to a
scherzo, based on a variant of the cell, a partial cambiata shaped F – Gb – Eb. After
a slow introduction, the finale features solos and duets by all the players.
The playing time for the septet is around 10 minutes.
