Description
The work "Un chien andalou" for bass clarinet, electronics and video was born from an obsession and a challenge. The obsession with an iconic short film of the cinematographic pantheon that in its time managed to transcend the art of frame to embrace other disciplines such as painting, writing, psychoanalysis, sculpture and music An obsession with a short film whose soundtrack was originally composed by two musics far apart: Wagner (the "Liebestod" from the opera Tristan and Isolde) and Argentine tangos. This strange mixture has always intrigued me: how is it possible that these two musics can live together so well without the result being perceived as a vulgar pastiche?
The challenge of this project therefore has two aspects: maintaining this intriguing coexistence musical through the manipulation of the original material (Wagner and tangos) along with material from the my own musical language. And, on the other hand, to translate into music, as the band does splendidly original soundtrack, the dreamlike, ironic and surreal features of the different scenes of the short film.
