Description
This composition is classified as aleatoric and is based on the oldest, classical texts of Chinese philosophy,
namely the Yijing Oracle. This book consists of line characters, grouped into three (trigrams) and six lines (hexagrams).
There are a total of 64 hexagrams, which are also visually divided by me as such according to the staves (see sample pages).
The special feature is that the performer determines his or her own sequence of hexagrams at random with the help of coin tosses and thus makes this work individually his or her own through his or her combination and interpretation. In total there are 64 x 64 = 4096 constellations of hexagrams. Within each trigram and hexagram I have added further random parameters, which are also to be determined by the performer, so that there are a total of more than 160 840 possible interpretations of this work.
This work corresponds to the versatile possibilities of a modern button accordion and shows the diversity of this unique instrument.
