Description
The present Ave Maria was written in memory of the talented Greco-Italian composer and organist Marco Sofianopulo (1952-2014), choir director of the Capella Civica in Trieste Cathedral, with whom I had the privilege of collaborating on several occasions and whom I saw for the last time in 2014 in Trieste during his final illness. Originally written for choir a cappella, this version with organ accompaniment was made at the request of the young baritone Mateusz Walendzik for singers of the Maîtrise de Notre-Dame de Paris, where it was performed in a cycle of concerts of Marian music in 2016-2017, accompanied by organist Yves Castagnet. It can either be performed with full choir or with single voices.
