Vogelino
Duration: 6'
Solos:
piccolo
The title of the work is a combination of two terms "Vogel" - German for bird, and the ending "ino" - from piccolino, representing a diminutive. The birdsong is not engraved in the score by an onomatopoeic treatment, but is suggested by the use of the high register, a pronounced rhythmic freedom and musical gestures close to the chirping of birds. The role of birdsong in ancient musical cultures is suggested through the slow transformation of "oiseau"-like musical gestures into a form of archaic folk song.
The piece is dedicated to Haika Lübcke.
