Thomas Pernes was born in Vienna in 1956. He studied piano with Bruno Seidlhofer and Alexander Jenner, composition with Alfred Uhl, Friedrich Cerha and Roman Haubenstock-Ramati at the Music College in Vienna. In 1984 Thomas Pernes accepted an invitation from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to give concerts and lectures in the course of the Arts Dialogue in Washington, Hartford and New York. IRCAM invited him to Paris for an apprenticeship and a subsequent production period in 1986. Thomas Pernes lived in Vienna as a free-lance composer and pianist, interpreter of this own works. His music was being performed throughout the world such as in Den Haag, Jerusalem, Donaueschingen, Tokyo, Brasilia and New York, Numerous works have been commissioned by organisations like the ISCM, the Styrian Autumn and Vienna State Opera.
