Work introduction
COMMENTS by pianist ANNA-MARIA MAAK
In the piano compositions collected in this volume, special care was taken to ensure that the pieces are not difficult to play, i.e. frequent changes of position, difficult fingerings/chords were avoided and tempi were rarely chosen too fast. The spirit of these charming pieces emerges from the work on the rhythmic elements - above all the lively feeling of syncopation! - and the precise realisation of dynamics, which opens the door to a sensitive and insightful interpretation.
This edition includes a selection of 10 pieces (ca. 17 min) from the complete cycle, which comprises 28 parts and lasts about 45 minutes.
Rhythm, especially syncopation, animates the movements, giving them an extremely lively character alongside its inherent rich musical poetry. The music lives through its pulse and not seldom resembles the beat, which comes close to the listening habits of today's youth.
Overall, the cycle has a dramaturgical function. A performance can be wonderfully combined with a reading and/or a staging, with theatrical actions.
