Work introduction
Written by a 28-year-old Karol Szymanowski, Symphony No. 2 overflows with ideas that all demand to be listened to – some inspired by Richard Strauss. The first movement is passionate and exhilarating, constantly on a high. The second comprises a theme and five variations, and is playful, festive and dance-like. The final movement consists of a sixth variation followed by a fugue.
