Work introduction
An educational and exciting mix of styles, techniques and timbres; that is the idea behind 25 Sketches for Piano. In his teaching practice, Clemens Hoffman uses his different experiences to the advantage of his pupils; he gives them the opportunity to try all sorts of styles, each at their own level, so they can find their own strengths, weaknesses and preferences. When it comes to the development of technical skills, he feels that achieving the right tone can be just as challenging as playing a fast run or complex rhythm. This book reflects these ideas and experiences. Each piece is different, with its own particular style, atmosphere and difficulty. Each offers a new challenge for the player, a new learning experience and a step on a musical journey.
While similar in style to 18 Pieces for Piano, this book is aimed at more advanced piano students.
"CORNÉLIE HOENDERVANGER, Pianist Magazine:
Not minimal music, not pop music, but a collection of short, original piano pieces, written in a clear style by an inspired teacher who knows what aspects he wants to highlight in his students’ education. Clemens Hoffman studied in Maastricht and runs his practice in the south of the Netherlands, offering lessons and courses intended to give young people a musical boost. I think his piano miniatures are cleverly constructed educationally, and they are captivating thanks to the expressive and certainly also the motor elements, with the occasional hint of Prokofiev or Shostakovitch, yet always authentically Hoffman. I asked two highly experienced colleagues if they share my opinion. Both spoke favourably about the composer’s creative ideas. So this new asset is recommended by three experts in the field."
