Work introduction
Antonio Vivaldi’s Winter (L’Inverno) from The Four Seasons features a hauntingly expressive
second movement, marked Largo. This serene yet melancholic section paints a vivid picture
of warmth and solace amid the cold, as delicate violin lines float over gentle arpeggios,
evoking the imagery of raindrops against the window.
In my arrangement for violin and guitar, I sought to preserve the original key, maintaining the
movement’s harmonic integrity while adapting the orchestral texture to the intimacy of a duo
setting. The guitar replaces the harpsichord and string accompaniment, providing a warm,
resonant foundation that enhances the violin’s lyrical expressiveness, allowing the music’s
depth and nuance to shine in a more intimate chamber setting.
