Work introduction
553: Film, Opus 12, was written in 1982 and served as the material for the Piano Concerto Opus 13. Some parts were eliminated or changed when it was revised in 1994.
It is a piece for piano four hands (or two pianos), in which the two pianists have such sparse parts that they mostly give the impression of listening to a single performer.
The piece has three movements. The first movement opens with an Andante comodo that becomes Poco più mosso, and concludes Con moto. The second is a "bipolar" Andante (scherzoso versus cantabile). The third and final movement begins with an Allegretto con brio that flows into an Allegro vivo for the Finale.
