Composer's Notes
Aria, a miniature composition for solo violin and piano, has its starting point in the story of Philemon and Baucis, rooted in Greek mythology and its world of gods. First Aria was written in 2003 for soprano as a part of my complementary compositions to the opera "Philemon and Baucis" by Joseph Haydn, which has been musically preserved only in part.
In 2022 Aria was recomposed for solo violin and piano. Aria can be experienced here as a short narrative of a dream, as a longing for a certain emotional sound language.
Although the piano has only its own timbre to produce and a single final octave to play, it remains an indispensable part of the performance: the solo violin plays into the open grand piano, whose strings resonate.
The solo part of the violin is characterized by phrases of unequal length, mirroring the human breath, which in the most delicate way savor the chromatic tonal space. Each note is felt and contributes its part to this gentle, reflected aria.
What is necessary to perform this work?
The pianist needs a small brush for the glissando in piano.
