Work introduction
Cantus III - Íthimbos is the third work of the "Cantus" series, which are based on a common compositional system that Felix Krieger has developed in recent years and with which he experiments here. Each of the Cantus pieces is based on its own cantus firmus, which is freely tonally suspended in four to six voices and represents the "Ur-Gerüst". Each tone of the cantus melody has its own chord structure/harmony structure, and the same tones within the melody in turn form their own tone rows with their respective chord structures/tones, the respective material of which is then elaborated in shape-forming sound surfaces.
While in the first two works of the Cantus series the "Urgerüst" is still audible, or rather becomes audible, in Cantus III this only has a subcutaneous effect. Íthymbos was a mythical dance in ancient Greece, about which quite little is known, performed in honor of Bacchus.
