Work introduction
The instrumental CHORAL has a behaved character that fits the style of a polyphonic motet. So the melody of each instrument is thought quite vocal. However, you can also recognize recurring motifs in the voices, for example, bar 1/2 in viola 3 and viola 4, imitated in bar 3/4 in viola 1 and 2. These motifs appear sometimes together, but also imitated by itself.
- The MADRIGAL is characterized by a rhythmic motif - with eighth notes - which is imitated across all instruments.
N.B. The mp3 is a Midi audio. But the piece is beautiful performed in the version for cello quartet on the label Navona Records. https://www.navonarecords.com/catalog/nv5832/
