Work introduction
Also available for piano and string orchestra and in a version for piano and string quartet.
"As in the original version of the Ciaccona (the monumental end of the Bach Partita BWV 1004!) which exhausts all the sound possibilities of the violin, Albertz brings the piano to its limits. It is not a simple arrangement of the original, transcribed for keys. He creates a new composition that takes advantage of the possibilities of the piano to clarify individual aspects of Bach's composition. The polyphony, for example, which sometimes is only implied in the violin version, is really executed in Albertz's interpretation through the composition of new voices in correspondence with the harmony. In this and in the playful handling of the tonal space, the individuality of Albertz shines through. However, he remains respectful to the original". (Meike Pfister)
