Work introduction
"Heaven you are coming to my vows" - Fantasy on themes taken from "I Puritani" by Vincenzo Bellini, is a composition commissioned by Teatro Massimo of Palermo for the "Bellini International Festival 2022".
The composer uses, according to a minimal rhythmic-repetitive structure, some of the main themes of Bellini's work: "A te, o cara", "Credeasi misera", "Rendetemi la speme" and fragments from the introduction to the Act III. These are reinterpreted in a minimal key and transformed in a dramatic reinterpretation in a minor key: the single melodic fragment is extrapolated, re-harmonized and exposed from the strings to the winds, appearing and disappearing; the same principle is used for the rhythmic subdivision, in the mixing between ternary and binary, and in the "echo" effects.
The title, taken from Arturo's choir and cavatina "A te, o cara", is the phrase that determines the atmosphere of the piece: a dramatic request; a prayer; a burning desire. The positive outcome of this request is all in the few final bars ("O rendetemi la speme"): Piraino's melodic and structural minimalism, typical of the language of the Palermo composer, leaves room for (bel) canto, in the positivity of a happy end accompanying "Heaven you are coming to my vows" as well as the work "I Puritani" by Vincenzo Bellini.
