Work introduction
Although Larsson studied composition with Alban
Berg in Vienna,
his encounter with the “new classicism” of Hindemith and others left a more
lasting impression on him. The spontaneity and freshness of his music
guaranteed its success at the 1934 IGNM Festival in Florence with audiences
fatigued by “advanced” pieces (where his Sinfonietta
was first performed and immediately taken on for publication by Universal
Edition) and in Paris, where his Divertimento was the high-point of the final concert in 1937.
