Work introduction
On 3 September 2021, the music student Cosima Becker and the opera tenor Attilio Glaser were married in Berlin. Invited to the celebration of this occasion, the composer wrote this duet to relieve himself of his burden of gratitude. He also wanted to draw the young couple's attention to the lyrical work of the clever and experienced writer Ulla Hahn.
The therm Donatialie certainly requires explanation: On special feast days, it is not only permissible but also morally appropriate to manifest one's affection and appreciation with a Donatialie. A donatialie is a gift in kind, which may also be of monetary value, but is not tax-deductible. If the gift is of a musical nature, it is usually referred to disparagingly as an occasional composition. The author, who has written a number of such pieces, presents here the first of these chamber music piéces.
