Work introduction
Emotionally, for Anna-Maria!
The works in the cycle “Fables and Solitudes” spring from the resplendent world of some of the greatest Ibero-American poets and literary figures: Luis de Góngora (Spain, 1561-1627), San Juan de la Cruz (Spain, 1542-1591) and Andrés Bello (Venezuela/Chile, 1781-1865). Meanwhile, it is also a salute to the poet among composers: The Catalan Federico Mompou. Two seemingly incompatible worlds - the acoustic and the electronic [*] - combine and complement each other to create an artistic reflection on modern times, which, between avatars and the simultaneous awareness of human vulnerability, reminds that “the path is made by walking” (“se hace camino al andar”, Antonio Machado).
Premiered by pianist Anna-Maria Maak on November 9th, 2016 | Oberlichtsaal der Stadtbibliothek Leipzig.
Recorded on Anna-Maria Maak’s concept album ‘In the Secret of the World’ | Label Florentyn Music (Catalogue number: FM-CD 2101)
[*] The work can be performed without the electronic part.
