Work introduction
“Greek Fantasy”
The “Greek Fantasy” for viola and piano was written at the beginning of 1971 at the request of the American violinist Patrick Kroboth, who performed it in San Francisco on May 9, 1971 with Angela Jacob at the piano.
The work begins with a slow section, the basic melody of which is immediately introduced by the viola.
The first section is followed by a fast dance with intense rhythmic and melodic elements originating from Greek traditional music.
Then the musical material of the two sections is elaborated, sometimes through the juxtaposition of the melodies and sometimes in combination or in variation of their musical content.
The work ends with a brief, quick Coda.
