Those wishing to programme performances of Hubert Parry's epic anthem "I was glad" are often hindered by the vast orchestration of the original, as well as the need for a venue with a suitably grand organ. This arrangement has slimmed down the instrumentation to that of a chamber orchestra, thus facilitating performances with smaller forces and in venues without an organ. The 'Vivat' section has been omitted, which is the usual custom when performing this piece outside of a British coronation.
