Wolfthal's Lulu Fantasy is a paraphrase of Alban Berg's great opera Lulu
in the spirit of Liszt's virtuoso opera arrangements. Some of the most lyrical
and dramatic moments in the opera – Alwa's love music, the film music and the
final scene – are presented in a way that explores their hidden connections and
creates a poetic portrait of the main characters. Especially interesting is the
elaborate arrangement of Alwa's Ragtime, normally heard only in the background
in Act I.
