Work introduction
“The wind experiments what it will do with its freedom…” I let myself be led by this suggestive Hai-kai by Guimarães Rosa when writing Matiz II. I started to think of music not only as previously established material, but with freedom to incorporate material that was unveiled during the compositional process, especially. The act of composing is an act of discovery. Perceiving the existence of these structures is part of the game in which materials are no longer seen as fixed and insurmountable entities, but as a sort of color palette from which the painter molds the painting, mixing, juxtaposing, reconfiguring at every moment. There is in the process a constant need of interpreting the material, because I believe there is a natural inherent power within them, and one of the roles of a composer is to unveil exactly that. It is from this immersion in an artisanal process that the hues materialized in the piece’s temporal flux, in the poetics of construction and deconstruction of movement and sound.
