Work introduction
This critical edition aims to spread, as much as possible, the music of Luigi Cherubini, one of the most famous composers of his times, admired by Beethoven and Schumann, and now almost forgotten.
In his enormous production the opera Medea, form which this piece comes, stands as a paradigm of a new dramatization of a tragic libretto.
Its ominous opening and almost obsessive rhythmical gestures stick immediately into the listener's mind.
Now this Ouverture can be studied and performed without fearing not to read the musical text as conceived by the composer.
