Work introduction
This work, like several others by the same composer, begins in a very traditional way, but goes off the track to completely unexpected detours before finding its way back to a virtuosic conclusion. This original version is for solo oboe and string ensemble/string orchestra, minimum five players; there is also a version for solo oboe and symphonic wind ensemble.
It was written for the composer's friend, the virtuoso oboist Richard Kravchak, who premiered it in 2015 at the Sixth Annual Festival of New Music, Marshall University, followed by a performance in New York with the North/South Consonance Ensemble, Max Lifchitz - Director.
