Work introduction
Passacaglia was premired by Collage New Music in Boston with David Hoose conducting on March 6th, 2011 at the Longy School of Music, Pickman Concert Hall, Cambridge, MA (USA).
"The 'Passacaglia' is of course a Baroque form made up of variations over a ground bass. Here Ricci used the structure for his own purposes, presenting the 'theme' as a chordal piano solo with the 'bass' melody ringing out in the soprano, and building from there. Skillfully performed, there was nevertheless an overall feeling of angst.." - The Boston Music Intelligencer
