Work introduction
The Piano Concert No.3 has three movements, playing without interruption and two main musical themes - bravura and gentle - weave through all three movements, interacting with each other, changing and complementing.
I Allegro con bravura. Meno mosso. Molto energico e brilliante.
II Libero e espressivo. Poco a poco agitato. Misterioso. Passionato. Lamentando.
III Espressivo e cantabile. Impetuoso. Allegro con bravura. Meno mosso.
What is necessary to perform this work?
Important:
The violins, violas and cellos in this score should be divided into halves, which are marked in the score and in the instrument parts as Violins 1-A, Violins 1-B, etc., providing for a division by score stand, not between players at the one stand. In order for the sound of the strings to be in the correct proportions, it is desirable to choose the following number of musicians: 8 first violins, 8 second violins, 4 violas, 4 cellos, 2 double basses. Of course, performance is possible also with an unequal - the odd number of musicians inside groups, but in this case the conductor's responsibility is to balance the sound of strings well.
