Work introduction
Commissioned by Prima la Musica Wien and dedicated to the Prima La Musica Wien Geigenquartett, "Primal Fun" is an overall playful and curious piece for four violins, an instrumentation rarely written for.
Each violin has an assigned theme, which gets introduced within the beginning. Ultimately the themes get passed on to each other.
The primal aspects ensues during a somewhat theatrical “battuto” section where all players use their bows, a little like clubs to hit the fingerboard with the side of the wood.
The work ends with the four players giving each other a literal “high five”.
