Work introduction
The six-part piano cycle is a kind of transcription of Ludwig van Beethoven's Bagatelles op. 126. Each bagatelle refers to the original in different ways. The given material is developed further or reinterpreted in the spirit of Beethoven's individual late-classical style of piano music. This is how the later fourth bagatelle came about, which takes up the tempo and an essential building block of Beethoven's material and pursues a formally and thematically unified approach. This gave rise to the idea of creating a six-part cycle that is orientated on Beethoven's material throughout. The cycle can either be performed together and in alternation with Beethoven's bagatelles or independently and without them, whereby a performance of the third bagatelle without the inclusion of Beethoven's 3rd bagatelle makes little sense.
