Work introduction
This work is a modest homage to Arnold Schönberg's music, and especially to his 6 kleine Klavierstücke.
Some pieces establish a sort of dialogue between the composer's musical elements with those of Schönberg. For instance, the unforgettable chord of five notes (C G# B E A) of the beginning of Farben from Schönberg’s 5 Orchestral Pieces Op. 16, is used in an arpeggio form at the beginning of González' fourth piece. These five notes are employed as a central thematic element of that piece.González was very impressed by Max Deutsch's analysis of Schönberg’s 5 Orchestral Pieces Op. 16, especially with Farben as Max Deutsch described it as a fugue...
The last piece is a sort of monologue, a resume of all the musical experiences from the precedent pieces, another reference to Schönberg’s 6 kleine Klavierstücke is heard at the end of the piece, the two-notes chord (G B) form the second piece of 6 kleine Klavierstücke appears suddenly and gently.
The work ends with the last very high C8 of the piano as opening something up to the future, or, perhaps, signifying the very high place where the composer feels that it is the place where Schönberg's music stands.
