Work introduction
«Some Enlightened Alleys» is an extensive piano cycle, where the poetic world of Robert Schumann is inspiration and a constant sound reference point. But the work also contains cultural references from different regions of the world, from the distant and near past, as well as from the present, while creating an independent acoustic identity in a new context to provoke reflection without disturbing the listening.
On this transcultural approach to the compositional process, a leading figure in the study of transculturality in the German-speaking world, the philosopher Prof. Wolfgang Welsch, has commented:
“...what I especially admire: when Sef Albertz acts transculturally, it has nothing to do with appropriation (which today is often regarded as dubious), but it’s about enrichment, complementarity and coming together. In Berlin, I was able to attend a piano recital performed by the wonderful Anna-Maria Maak, where highly exciting transcultural wanderings could be experienced. I look forward to his next concert with great anticipation”.
Premiered by Pianist Anna-Maria Maak on September 14th, 2024 | Galery art Kapella Schkeuditz.
