Stealing time BOrchestration: for marimba and electronics
Type: Noten
“Stealing time B” for Marimba and electronics is part of a cycle of four pieces of variable size called “Stealing time”. As its name suggests, this cycle is based on a discourse around the contraction of musical time and its perception. “Stealing time” as a metaphor for musical time in a constant process of transformation, with the idea of creating a fluid form that seems to move forward in time in an irremediable way but which, paradoxically, can end up locking itself in. It's a search for undirected linearity.
Each of the four pieces in the cycle tackles the aforementioned question from different angles, taking into account the characteristics of the instruments for which they are written. In the particular case of “Stealing time B”, the starting point is the field of historical Marimba organology. More specifically, it aims to investigate the Marimba de chonta, a paradigmatic instrument of traditional music from the Colombian Pacific.
