NPO radio 4 (Dutch national radio) program Opium is broadcasted every evening live from VondelCS, in the middle of the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. The most romantic Torenkamer (tower room) is offered as a work space for artists to work on personal artistic projects. Peter worked one week in this space to write this piece for Brandt Attema, combining the bass trombone with samples of manipulated gramophones of among other things speeches by Einstein, Beethoven string quartets and Dutch street organs.
The trombone is playing together with samples which are played through a stereo audio installation. The samples have to be triggerd by a pedal. The pedal can be played by the trombone player itself. To control the samples easily it's advisable to use a computer application which can make a chronological list of commands. The application should be able to start, stop and loop the samples and to play six audio tracks parallel. Some suggestions for applications are QLab or Ableton Live.
