Work introduction
Commissioned by the Swedish Chamber Orchestra for violinist Ava Bahari, this violin concerto is a profound exploration of the themes of memory, perception, and materiality, uniquely realized through the integration of music, visual art and scent. The work is structured in three movements—Collage, Meditation, and Kaleidoscope—each of which delves into these philosophical concepts through rhythmically intricate and thematically rich compositions.
"Collage," the first movement, sets the stage with a dynamic interplay of motifs that reflect the fragmented yet interconnected nature of memory. The second movement, "Meditation," shifts to a more contemplative tone, featuring delicate harmonies and lyrical violin passages that invite introspection. The final movement, "Kaleidoscope," brings the concerto to a vibrant conclusion, capturing the fluid and ever-evolving nature of perception with its intricate and evolving musical patterns. Each movement is paired with a bespoke scent composition, designed to enhance the listener's sensory experience and deepen their engagement with the music. As a synesthete, the composer seeks to convey a multi-sensory experience through her multidisciplinary works, enriching the audience's perception and understanding. The live performance is augmented by audio-reactive visuals, creating a synesthetic experience that transcends conventional boundaries.
