Work introduction
Written during a five-week European trip that included stays in Kromeríž, Vienna, Lyon, and Paris, du temps jadis (of a bygone time) reflects on the historical cities of Europe, with their mystery and with the souls of centuries of those who have occupied their ancient walls. While maintaining much of their older architecture and sculpture, however, these cities have added elements of each succeeding generation. Similarly, this work uses ancient music as a point of departure, gradually transforming it into something different.
It was composed for “Musiques à 4” : Isabelle Marchal, Loïc Massot, Anne Rejiba and Philippe Rayer, who gave the premiere in Nantes in 2012.
