Work introduction
The title refers indirectly to the work “pression” for violoncello solo by Helmut Lachenmann, premiered in Como in 1970, and in a way represents Killmayer's “counter-variant” to Lachenmann's highly artificial, avant-garde and revolutionary aesthetic of the 1970s, Lachenmann's highly artificial, avant-garde revolutionary aesthetics of the 1970s and is primarily indebted to the lightness of bowing, but also to the tradition of chamber music cello literature such as Schumann's fairy-tale images, whose significant third-quarter chord turns characterize the first part of the work in particular.
