Work introduction
Esoteria is a short quartet movement for clarinet in Bb, violin, viola and violoncello in which each player receives a solo role. This piece was first performed at the Royal College of Music by the RCM Composers’ Ensemble in May 2006. The piece’s title refers to allusions within the music of the 1st subject of Bach’s f minor fugue XII from the Well Tempered Clavier BWV857 which is embedded in the 12 tone serial row.
