Work introduction
Holistic notation study IV {What the bees see} continues my simple series of works that focuses on extramusical events. This time the viewers are put in the perspective of bees – to better comprehend these beautiful creatures that are often misunderstood, exploited, feared and / or neglected. In order to do so, three movies in public domain are manipulated to loosely simulate the perspective of bees by using TV noise as well as pixelation, Gaussian noise and colouring techniques. The piece may be shown in many different versions, ranging from a single to six screens in hexagonal arrangement. The sound follows the editing of the movies, but is also sometimes independent while additional effects provide the spectators with more than a bee's view to make them even more connected to the wonders of this world. Finally, my early electroacoustic piece Rauschen becomes part of the mix and acts as a complement to the static image noise. This is the black and white version of the score, but you can access the coloured version on this page.
