Description

Play with style using Mike Cornick's Style Collection. This selection of waltzes has been arranged for the middle-grade pianist to play and enjoy and includes pieces from a wide range of sources. No longer are waltzes composed only for the ballroom and many included here have become all-time favourites through the media of stage and film. Pieces such as Moon River, Skaters' Waltz, I Feel Pretty, the Waltz from Sleeping Beauty and A Time for us are just a few examples from this collection. The CD provides the option of playing along as part of an ensemble which is both confidence-building and fun, while the demonstration tracks for listening are not only inspiring but hugely entertaining.

• Favourite pieces in a variety of waltz styles from Schubert's Longing to Shostakovich's Jazz Waltz arranged for the intermediate-level pianist

• An enjoyable and rewarding way to become acquainted with a variety of styles and extend your pianistic skills

• Play along in your own ensemble using the CD minus-one tracks - a pleasure on your own and when entertaining others

Reviews

(...) this selection will come in handy especially for older learners or adult learners who know and like the gentle feel-good factor a Waltz can bring. The arrangements lie nicely in the hands and are not too difficult or awkward to play. Chord symbols are there, fortunately under the bass line, so not cluttering the eye. So the adult’s friend who can play guitar can join in!
Piano Professional Magazine, Spring 2018, Issue 46 (Beate Toyka´)

(...) Mike Cornick’s arrangements are sympathetically done.
Pianist Magazine June-July 2017 (Michael MacMillan)

One of my basic rules for arrangements is that if it’s arranged by Mike Cornick, buy it – and yet again it has worked. (…) This is a great collection from Cornick’s Style series, one that will be played purely for pleasure, for an in-depth look at the development of the waltz genre, and for concerts, recitals, occasions and parties.
