In 1935, almost 90 years ago, Alban Berg composed his famous violin concerto. The violinist Louis Krasner had previously approached Berg with a request to write a violin concerto for him. Although Berg was working on his work Lulu at the time, he could hardly turn down the commission due to his financial situation. He sketched out initial ideas for the piece in mid-March and intended to finish composing the violin concerto in the summer. Berg completed the piece before he died in December as a result of blood poisoning.
To mark the upcoming anniversary, the Alban Berg Foundation is announcing a composition competition. Universal Edition is delighted to award a one-year subscription to the publishing tool scodo to the winner as part of a cooperation with the Alban Berg Foundation.
