Current performances and programmes
A look at the current programme shows the importance of Wolfgang Rihm and his compositions for the contemporary music scene. Some institutions are also changing their programmes due to his death.
Wolfgang Rihm was closely associated with the Lucerne Festival not only as a composer, but also as artistic director of the Lucerne Festival Academy since 2016. A few weeks after his death, his music will therefore also be performed at the festival.
The Berliner Philharmoniker have appointed Wolfgang Rihm as their Composer in Residence for the 2024/25 season. Wolfgang Rihm was already seriously ill at the time, but was delighted that the partnership with the orchestra was to be given another powerful boost in this way. The residency will now take place ‘in memoriam’.
